A gold color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall consisting of a brick red disk edged gold with three battlements on the top edge and in the center a gold, black-striped tiger's head in profile with jagged extremities, the ends surmounting a green wreath in base composed of laurel leaves on one side and palm on the other; on the centered embattlement a black arrow point up; upon the base and sides of the gold rim, a triparted gold scroll inscribed "QUID" "QUANDO" "QUO" in black letters.
Brick red and golden yellow are used for Transportation. The three decorations awarded the organization for service in Europe, World War II are commemorated by the laurel leaves for the Meritorious Unit Commendation; the palm for the French Croix de Guerre; and the embattled edge for the Belgian Citation. The three battlements also refer to the unit's three European World War II campaign awards with the arrowhead indicating the Normandy assault landing. The tiger's head alludes to the spirit with which the organization performs its mission. The disk, with three projections at the top, symbolize the transportation mission and three prime methods: land, water and air. The motto refers to the Battalion's only query when assigned a mission, i.e., What is the job? When must the job be done? Where is the job?
The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 31 August 1966. It was amended to correct the description on 30 November 1967.
